I was born in Orkney, North West Province, and went to school in Potchefstroom and Polokwane. I studied at North West University and University of Johannesburg and obtained my Honours degree in History and Educational Management.

I arrived in Jeffreys Bay in October 2003. I have 27 years’ experience in teaching and was Principal at Alma Mater Akademie (Krugersdorp) for 3 years and Victory Christian School in Jeffreys Bay for 12 years.

I opened the doors to Pharos School in January 2016.

 

My passions

I am passionate about discovering that one thing in every child that will make them excited about life and learning. In each child there is a God given passion, potential and purpose. As teachers we must discover and nurture it.

 

My purpose at Pharos

We are called to let the light of Jesus shine in our lives so that the children that comes to Pharos can be Light bearers for Jesus inside the school and the community. I was born in Potchefstroom, North West Province and went to school in Polokwane and Klerksdorp. I studied at the University of Potchefstroom. I have been a Gr10 to 12 Life Sciences teacher for 15 years.

At the beginning of 2017, I became the reading therapist at the Tina Cowley Reading centre at Pharos school.

 

My passions

I love reading and therefore decided to end my teaching career in 2016 to put my energy into a reading program to help learners to improve their reading skills.

 

My purpose at Pharos

The last couple of years as a teacher I saw many high school learners who struggled due to under developed reading skills.

I found my purpose, seeing the potential in every learner while sharing my passion with them.

My passions

What I do for a living is one of my passions! My other passions, photography and writing, is my way of being creative. Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and my two favourites are horses and Rottweilers.

I started my journey with Pharos in 2015 and became part of the staff at the beginning of 2017. This year I celebrate 25 fantastic years as a teacher. I have no regrets regarding my career choice. Being a teacher brings colour to my life!

I took hands with Pharos at their birth in 2016.

 

My passions

My passions in life is to see children grow, spiritually, mentally and emotionally, to compose music, to coach choirs, to write poetry, to listen to soul music, to admire clouds, to collect pebbles (I have a collection from all over the world brought to me by my students). Beautiful flowers, sunsets and sunrises, to visit with my girlfriends and add value to other people’s lives.

 

My purpose at Pharos

It is the biggest privilege to help form the lives of children, to give them love, to be there and really care for them. All people, especially children, thrives when being loved. When a child feels safe, optimal learning can be achieved.

Teaching is not just about relaying knowledge, it is also the biggest treasure of all – building of valuable relationships.

My passions

I have been married for 40 years and have a son and a daughter. My only granddaughter is the life of my life. I enjoy cooking, reading and walking on the beach.

And I love, love my job! How many of us can say that and really mean it! I have a passion for teaching.

The Lord opened the door for me at Pharos in 2017, knowing this young at heart 62 year old could not sit still. My passions

I love teaching Maths and to help a student experience the joy of conquering a challenge forms a big part of who I am as a teacher.

Teaching and education is my passion and over the years I found my true niche in writing and compiling work books for students.

 

My purpose at Pharos

Starting a new school is definitely the highlight of my career.  Pharos School gave me the opportunity to use my experience in a way I only dreamed of in the past. To compile work books is the most satisfying experience I have ever had in my career. Experiments, experiments, experiments!! This is always one of the best highlights of a lesson. To see the students faces, their surprised expressions and of course to listen to their comments and then to answer them in such a way that they can go home with excitement and tell their parents about the new things that they have learned in class.

I was born and raised on a farm in Alexandria. I moved to Jeffreys Bay 16 years ago to work.

I worked at Marina Martinique and Victory Christian School before starting my journey with Pharos in 2016.

 

My passions

I enjoy any kind of sport – but discovered my passion for long distance running 4 years ago. In 2017 I ran the Two Oceans and finished with a bronze medal and qualified for my 1st Comrades Marathon.

My wife and 5 children are my life and we enjoy worshipping together and spending time as a family.

 

My purpose at Pharos
