Fearfully and Wonderfully Made – 18 November 2019

18 November 2019

I am called to:
Establish an Eternal Future

This is a great theme to end this series for 2019. I think every God fearing parent’s dream and wish for their child/ren is that they will come to a knowledge of who God really is and to know Jesus as their savior. When that happens, we know their eternal future is secure.

We can read the Bible with our children, take them to church, expose them to all that is available so that they can get to know Jesus, but the most important part is when they make the decision to receive Jesus into their lives. This can happen at any stage or age, the good news is, it is never too late.

Once our children have received the Lord, we must continue praying for their relationship with Him. We constantly hear about children who walk with God when they are young, but turn away from Him in their teens or adulthood. That is where our role as praying parents come in. We must constantly pray for our children’s relationship with God as there is always more and more of the life of the Lord for each of us to open up to and experience.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20)

“Walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” (Colossians 1:9-10)

Be blessed and safe during the holidays. Remember the best place for us as parents to be, is at the feet of God, continually praying for our children.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made – 2 September 2019

I am Christ’s and:
I must break down ungodly strongholds

“Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”  (1 Peter 5:8)

Have you ever observed something in your child that bothers you but you can’t identify what it is?  Have you ever detected an expression on your child’s face that you knew was guilt but you didn’t know the reason for it?  When that happens, don’t ignore your God-given instincts as a parent.  Ask God to reveal what it is you are sensing so that God can reveal any ungodly stronghold erecting itself in the flesh.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be your child’s sins you are sensing.  It could be hurt or fear your child could be experiencing.  It could be hopelessness, confusion, envy, selfishness or pride.  It is impossible to guess, especially if your child doesn’t talk about it.  Therefore it is best to ask God to reveal it to you, by praying about it even if you don’t get a clear leading right away, keep at it, so that the power of the Holy Spirit can penetrate the lives of our children and deliver them from evil.

Dear Lord, thank you that You have promised in Your word to deliver us when we cry out to You.  We come to You on behalf of our children and ask that You would deliver them from any ungodliness that may be threatening to become a stronghold in their lives.  Lord, we put our children in Your hands, guide, protect and convict them when sin is trying to take root.  Help us as parents to depend on You, to guide us to be the parents You want us to be, to help our children and strengthen them in the battle when Satan attempts to gain a foothold in their lives.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made – 15 July 2019

I am Christ’s and:

Will attract Godly friends

Let’s look at what the Bible says about friendship?

Proverbs 18:24
The man of too many friends will be broken in pieces and come to ruin, but there is a true, loving friend who is reliable and sticks closer than a brother.

Ecclesiastes 4:9
Two are better than one because they have a more satisfying return for their labor.

John 15:13
No one has greater love, or stronger commitment, than to lay down his life for his friends.

Proverbs 27:17
As iron sharpens and influences another through discussion.

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage and comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing.
To summarize, according to the above verses a godly friend is someone who:

• Will lay down his/her life for their friend
• Will encourage and comfort each other
• Will sharpen one another
• Will lift each other up

Friends can make or break your child and we, as parents, must teach our children from a young age to seek out Godly friends with above mentioned characteristics.
Why do we need Godly friends?

• To encourage one another
• To ask the difficult questions
• To offer Godly counsel.
• To keep one another accountableTo pray for each other
• To share Jesus with each other

We lift up our children to You and ask that You would bring Godly friends and role models into their lives.  Give them the wisdom they need to choose friends who will uplift them and never compromise their walk with You in order to gain acceptance.  Give us as parents wisdom to guide our children in the selection of their friends.  Let us instill in them Your word by reading, praying and worshiping together every day.  May each of their friendships always glorify You.

Lighthouse Treasures – 4 June 2018

Dear friends

We are busy looking at one of our school’s values – caring.  Last time we focused on how to help people in need.  This week we will focus on how to be sensitive and considerate towards others.

As children of God we must not be self-seeking, but we must look out for the interest of others.  The motto of this selfish world is that it is all about me but our focus must be on always being humble, to love one another and watch what we say to people.  When you are about to say something mean or arrogant, consider the feelings of others.  It is sinful to be mean, proud and selfish.

In all that you do, always take others into consideration.  Don’t hold a grudge, but forgive like God forgave us.  When someone is going through a tough time, comfort them like God comforts us.  When someone needs help, help them just as God continually helps us.  Do all things for God’s glory.  Be encouraged today to be more sensitive towards the people around you and let’s pray to be more about we and less about me.
Philippians 4:5
Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do.  Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

Romans 12:16
Live in harmony with each other.  Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people.

1 Corinthians 10:24
People should be concerned about others and not just about themselves.

Lets focus on being more sensitive towards others, putting their feelings before ours.  Lets start doing this by watching what we say about and to people.  Life and death lies in the tongue.  Let our words build up and encourage others.  Let the love of God be found in your words.  Let this act of sensitivity become part of our daily walk and talk so that our children can see and experience it and follow our example.

Lighthouse Treasures – 14 May 2018

Deuteronomy 15: 11
There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers who are poor and needy in your land.
Dear friends

We are busy looking at one of our school’s values – caring.  Last time we focused on how to treat people with kindness and generosity.  This week we will focus on how to help people in need.

Teaching children the importance of giving to others, whether time, money or energy, is one of the most valuable character traits in a child of God.  The Bible is filled with verses and examples of people of all ages helping others.  It doesn’t matter if you have a lot to give or a little, it’s the heart that matters!  Be encouraged today to go make a difference in someone’s life!  You never know how a small act of kindness can draw someone closer to God.
Galatians 6:2
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Hebrews 13:16
And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Lets focus on reaching out to others this week, showing that we care by giving of our time, energy, money or even just a hug or a smile.  Let this act of caring become part of our daily walk and talk so that our children can see and experience it and follow our example.

Lighthouse Treasures – 16 April 2018

Galatians 5: 22
But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Dear friends

For the next couple of weeks we would like to focus on another of our school’s values – caring. It seems like such an easy value to live by, but during our day to day activities it can sometimes be a challenge to be caring. Here are a few guidelines on how to be a caring person:

Treat people with kindness and generosity.
Help people in need
Be sensitive to people’s feelings.
Never be mean or hurtful
Think about how your actions will affect others.
Remember, we become caring people by doing caring things.
For today, let’s look at the first guideline; treat people with kindness and generosity. These two values go hand in hand and throughout the Bible there is a clear message to give generously and be kind.

Generosity is bestowed through giving of your time, sharing your God-given gifts and talents, and financially blessing those in need. The principle of generosity is powerful and the Bible teaches us that it is more blessed to give than to receive. We are blessed to be a blessing.

God encourages his people to be kind to one another, even your enemies.

Colossians 3:12
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Luke 6:35
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.

Proverbs 3:3
Do not let kindness and truth leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.

Lets take hands this week and show generosity and kindness towards others, but most of all, let it become part of our daily walk and talk so that our children can see and experience it and follow our example.

Lighthouse Treasures – April 2018

Romans 12:2
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.
Dear friends

Today I want to focus on the true meaning of Easter.

The true meaning of Easter is sometimes overlooked as we get caught up in the world where the traditions like the Easter bunny and Easter eggs are the main focus.   These traditions however have little to do with the story of Christ’s death and resurrection.  As Christian parents we have an obligation towards our children to teach them the true meaning of Easter which must be the death and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

After His crucifixion on the third day, as Jesus had foretold, He arose to live, talk, and show himself again to hundreds of people (1 Corinthians 15:3–6). His resurrection was the ultimate proof of who He is and what He promised.  For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son to die for our sins and set us free.

Today you can know the power of the resurrection in your own life by truly believing what the Bible says about knowing God:

RECOGNIZE that without Christ you are separated from God, now and forever. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

REALIZE that God loves you, and believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

RECEIVE the risen Savior into your life by faith. “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).

You can experience a changed life made possible all because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and therefore God wants you to experience for yourself what Easter is all about!

Let us as a Pharos family therefore take hands and ensure that our children will know the true meaning of Easter.

Lighthouse Treasures – March 2018

Philippians 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.  Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.

Dear friends

Today we are going to look at one of our core values – RESPECT

We live in a time when respect for others and their property is lacking. It is not uncommon for youths and even adults to show no deference to the aged, those in authority or those who sacrifice and serve in the community.  We have the duty to honor those to whom respect is due, and as parents we have an obligation to train our children to render this respect.

How do children learn respect?
1.  They learn through observation
They learn how to respect their parents by observing how their parents respect one another. They learn how to respect government by observing how their parents respect the law. They learn how to respect their teachers by observing how their parents respect them. And, they learn to respect God by observing their parents do the same.

2.  They learn through instruction
Parents, we have a duty to God and to our children to instruct them in the reasons for being respectful. This will equip them for success in life and prepare them to assume their place in the kingdom. Parents, we harm our children by not instructing and re-enforcing respect.

3.  They learn by correction
While it is unfortunate, it is nevertheless often necessary to apply correction. A failure to do this when it is called for encourages further disrespect.  For this reason then, God has allowed parents to discipline their children.

Let us as a Pharos family take hands to set the example for our children and instill this very important value of respect.

Titus 2:7
In everything set them an example by doing what is good.  In your teaching show integrity and seriousness.

Lighthouse Treasures – February 2018

Lighthouse Treasures
5 February 2018
Jesus said:  “I am the light of the world …. you are the light to the world!”

Dear friends

As we enter 2018 we are entering a year of new beginnings.  For many of us 2017 was a difficult year with lots of challenges, setbacks and disappointments.  But as God promised in His Word, He will carry us through all of our ordeals if we keep our eyes focused on Him and lay down everything at His feet.  As children of God we are in this world but not from this world and our treasures are stored in Heaven where it can not rot or be stolen by thieves.

2018 is also a year of Light.  When we are in Christ, and Christ is in us, we carry His Light into this world.  Here at Pharos we aim to create a place where the light of Christ will shine.  Because He is the Light of the world, He will guide us so that we as a Pharos family can bring the light to our community, region, country and the world.

John 8:12
“Once more Jesus addressed the crowd.  He said, I am the Light of the world.  He who follows Me will not be walking in the dark, but will have a Light which is Life”

Matthew 5: 14-16
You are the light of the world.  A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all in the house.  Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.
